As a Rotarian I attended my first District Conference with my spouse Sherry this past October 19-21, 2012 in Richmond Hill. I met many fine Rotarians from my District 7080 as well as District 7070. Geographically, these two districts stretch from Cobourg to Woodstock, Ontario.  Overall there were over three hundred attendees.

The conference opened with a golf tournament on the Friday at the prestigious Angus Glen Golf Club, host of two former Canadian Open Golf Championships. In the evening the conference kicked off with an amazing Kaleidoscope of international dancers representing several countries and lead into networking opportunities at a choice of eight hospitality suites throughout the hotel.

On Saturday we were introduced to a large number of Rotary Exchange Students with a parade of international flags representing close to twenty countries. Throughout the day attendees had the opportunity to attend twenty four breakout sessions. I got a lot out of the membership growth and retention session. The evening’s gala dinner was not to be missed with fabulous food and a masterful live show from the husband and wife comedy team of Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath.

On Sunday Rotary youth took centre stage as we heard great presentations from an Ambassadorial scholar, a Group Study Exchange from Brazil along with Interactors and Rotaractors. Overall, my spouse and I had a great time at our first District Conference.
